Hey guys, need a bit of help.

Firsty, i have to say i am so stupid to be attracted to Vista. Other than it's nice graphics, it's nothing great, in fact, it is worst. It's a memory hogger. I couldn't play my favourite games nicely anymore and blablabla... Sad

Anyway, during upgrade installation, i've decided to skip making back up discs as my DVD-RAM wasn't working properly. So, i don't have any back up of my old XP that originally came with it.

HOWEVER, now i want to switch back. Though i do not have the back up disc that came with this PC, i have another set of discs for back-up of my other computer which runs XP Home edition. Now, i'd like to ask if it is possible to re-install XP using the backup of my other computer?

Upgrade to Vista = no turning back to XP, unless you uninstall Vista.

Also, OEM copies of XP only runs on one PC. Attempts to pirate it will lock you out.

yes, cannot deny that. you wouldn't know how idiotic n desperate i feel now...the game i'm talking about is the sims 2, and i have all expansion packs, with families up to 5 generations. Now, in Vista, the RAM is simply not enough to run it smoothly. Loading which under XP took 30 seconds now take 2-3 minutes. Sad Sad Crying or Very sad

I've got one long and tedious way. It's only a matter of whether you want or not, and whether or not it works. Microsoft, being Microsoft will always leave a lot of holes for us to exploit.

Try this:

Put in the Vista disc, restart the PC. When you see the screen that asks you to press Del or whatever button to go into CMOS, press it. Change your first boot device to your CD/DVD drive.

Save and exit CMOS.

Done, PC will restart automatically. Windows will now boot into the Vista disc.

Follow the prompts. When reach a stage where it asks you to partition, don't partition. Delete all partitions. Then partition them.

Continue to set up Vista as per normal.

When you reach the stage whereby you need to enter the product key, skip this step. Do not enter the product key, just click Next.

You will be asked to choose the edition of Vista you bought. Select the correct edition, click Next.

Once Vista is installed, enter the product key. You will be asked whether you want to upgrade or do a custom install. Select Custom install. Vista will be reinstalled.

Just follow the prompts and you are done.

Buy another XP CD and pop it in to the CD/DVD drive. Install XP like how you did for Vista just now....

Be prepared to spend at least one day.
