Lenovo Y400- anyone using it? Reviews or Opinions?

Saw this model selling at IT show for $1599. Am thinking of getting it cos it is supposed to be very hardy. But I am not sure since it is a lower range model compared to the standard THINKpad. (it is also retailing windows XP)

What do u all think? Will really appreciate some opinions/reviews as I think I would go down tmrw night again to decide on a purchase.

i still think a MacBook is good value for money.. but that's me Laughing

not sure how long more microsoft is going to support xp now that vista is out...

Yeah understand but after considering that I can only buy an entry level macbook with my budget plus difficulties of running my children's software on it,(no point running windows O/S on a mac) decided against it eventually.

Apparently when i did research, Lenovo is comparable with Apple when it comes to hardware stability. however, i am worried it only means the high end one.. I wonder how it is for something like the Y400?

it's basically an IBM and i liked how robust they were (my organisation used the IBMs then)

I'm not sure if they can tahan spills, but IBM laptops can definitely take knocks. Very Happy

only one i've seen that could handle spills and that was more than 4 years ago when Fresh Gear took a bunch of notebooks to task.. it was a Toshiba... but recently, i've read they've gone to heck Razz

they say the keyboard is watertight.. so can spill coffee over wont kill laptop...
take knocks too will be useful... great...
sounds like what i need for my dangerous working environment

guess i will be getting the lenovo... Hmmm.. tomolo hope they cut down price more hurhur~

I had my fujitsu through thick thin dirt and clean for almost 6 years...
it worked until my itchy fingers decided to remove the dead battery..
and then nothing i do can ressurect it again Sad

6 years is an amazingly long time for a notebook.. my VIAO died after almost 4 years... Razz

Yeaaaahhhh man.. i lurve tt fujitsu.. but i got it at a time when I had.. more MOOLAH... so it was a high end fujitsu... NOW LEH... pennies count.

Oh...

Although IBM can take spills and knocks, there's a limit... put it in some safe place.

Also lock the computer (press Ctrl + L) when not in use. This way, they cannot anyhow press and crash anything...

I have just gotten the Lenovo Y400.

however, they told me that all those 'tough' spills and knocks is only for the thinkpad. But I think and hope that while I would not purposely subject the laptop to torment, the lenovo Y400 would still prove to be reasonable durable and work well Smile
