Uploading Problems

Hi all,

I was wondering whether the moderators of this forum could help me out with a problem. My internet connection is perfect (broadband) but I can't seem to upload files especially pictures which are about 400 kb into Friendster or any other picture sites. Each time I tried to upload, the connection would time out after attempting to upload for a few seconds. An error page would then pop up.

What could possibly be the problem?

Try compacting your pictures. If you have Photoshop, use Photoshop to compact it.

If you don't, use Shrink Pictures

Yeap JPEG format...

Yeah... in fact compacting pictures help, but I would have to shrink it all the way down to less than 50 kb before the upload registers; but then the picture would then lose its quality and sharpness...

Previously on other modems, such a problem wouldn't exist... but if it's possible to allow me to go online and which the speed is great, I was wondering could it be some of the configuration settings in my computer that is causing the source problem.

If you Set resized image quality (jpg compression) to best (question 4), it won't lose much quality. I like this site very much, and have compressed lots of pictures there without my pictures losing quality.

It's perhaps the size of the pictures that makes the connection timeout. If you are using Firefox, you can tweak the timeout length.

Type in about:config in the address bar. Scroll down to network.http.keep-alive.timeout. Right click and select Modify. Change the value to higher than 300. That should work.

Tried both techniques... it didn't work for the Mozilla Firefox one, even though I've tried to adjust it up to 600...

As for the resizing program... the picture it took to resize was quite long and eventually it timed out...

Hmm... wired connections shouldn't time out so often.

I'm not so sure what's the surfing conditions like in JB. If users there experience frequent time-outs, then that could be a cause. Most likely due to ISP, there's nothing much to help since it's the ISP problem already.
