Singnet VS Starhub - Bandwith Comparison (analysis)

pokemonlover SG

Hi guys... Just wanted to do a little bandwidth comparison between Singnet Broadband(Dedicated) and Starhub Maxonline(Shared).

Just what really is the difference?

For all my life I have been using Singnet 1.5mbps and here are some key pointers:

- Speed consistent ( mine is 1.5mbps but I receive slightly lesser )
- Cannot host games online (CS,CS:S,Zion etc) although port forwarded on router
- Disconnects at least once every week ( have to restart router )
- Upload speed is slow

Anyone can provide me with some more advantages and disadvantages of starhub?

My friend is using the 2mbps plan and he says:

- Starhub can host games online easily
- Starhub speed sometimes consistent only ( but most of the time )
- Got free digital voice to replace home phone line ( need to buy Voice-enabled cable modem for 200+ )

Anyone can provide me with some more advantages and disadvantages of starhub? I will collaborate and post them in a new post, thks.

Your friend is bias towards StarHub....

StarHub
- you have to share your bandwidth....
- oso have its d/c time

actually 2 company belongs to 1. so infact no diff.

Not a gamer, but speed wise, it's fast. Upload is faster than download (more than 10 minutes to download a 2MB file, less than 10 minutes to upload the same file)

Did not have disconnections as regular as you though... I think throughout my 3 years using, I have less than 5 disconnections.

the only thing i met with singnet is...

i can't even connect to the net, dunno why but the modem's ADSL LINK keep on flashing or not even lit up. now quite seldom liao...
speed quite slow...mine's 512k, so cannot expect much..

Its a small market and even smaller land area for coverage here in Singapore. Unlike China, US or India the piece of pie is just so big. Few ISPs will want to venture into SG because the profits may not even be enough to cover the overall setup costings. Raise the fees and the customers will switch to other providers.

Its not even Singtel's main profit and source of income for singnet here in Singapore. Without investments on other services in other regions it may not even be profitable for them to have the whole system just to serve the subscribers in Singapore alone.

As for Starhub, the mainframe and architecture of their green pipes are solely for videos and they started with the SCV which explains for the high bandwidth they can provide when they modify it as a support medium for data transfer and exchange and thus as an ISP later after Singnet.

And what happened to Pacnet and what's with the new M1 BB service?

FireIce SG

pacnet corporate is good

pacnet residential damn crappy

pokemonlover SG

M1 cannot tahan. 2gb max only and they dont promise the speed hor.

Pacnet residential - disconnects frequently (my friend say one) but he say it does seem to be able to go into game servers regardless hosted by starhub or singnet

R3SsH|n SG

singnet ar?
dun regret ar... Laughing

starhub plug and play. singtel have to use the microfilter thing, somethings cannot work properly.

seriously, based on my experience with singnet, i don't see anything good about it...

manyu882 SG

Starhub la… so far no problem. my speed always kept at the maximum

pokemonlover SG

i also know singnet not good.... used it for the past 2 years.

1st year at old house in jurong speed consistent everything went fine

2nd year moved to bukit batok the connection reset minimum once every week and have to wait 15-30 minutes and reset the router before it works

I think its the location problem..

but i really want the mac and the 10mbps is dedicated so i suppose its the best deal already..

starhub offering nothing at all. laptop and desktop promotions all ended and now left with the sign all 3 services get free 32'' tv.

i have tv liao
