yesterday i wanted to defragment my drive...but to my horror,i can't find it in my start menu!...last time its was under system tools,but wierd to say i ca't find it yesterday...i swear i nv did anything drastic to my PC//..
some1 tell me y is it like that?n any other ways to get to the defragment function?

My Computer> Select a HDD> Right Click Properties> Tools Tab> Defragment

Go to Start > Run and type in dfrg.msc.

LOL... right click on Disk Defragment in System Tools can find the target path.

Will too much defragment wreck your HDD? I heard that from somewhere...

So, what's the recommended defrag intervals? BTW, I download alot...

Can't find any explanation for its disappearance.

Try creating a similar folder called System Tools at the path below and see if it brings back.

C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Start Menu\Programs\Accessories

Backup: C:\Windows\System32\ntbackup
Character Map: C:\Windows\System32\charmap
Disk Cleanup: C:\Windows\System32\cleanmgr
Disk Defragmenter: C:\Windows\System32\dfrg.msc
Security Center: C:\Windows\System32\wscui.cpl
System Information: C:\Program Files\Common Files\Microsoft Shared\MSInfo\msinfo32.exe
System Restore: C:\Windows\System32\restore\rstrui

Find these programs and create a shortcut to desktop. Make a folder called System Tools in C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Start Menu\Programs\Accessories. Move your shortcuts in.

Nope, unless during defragmenting, you run some programs or a screensaver starts.

This may corrupt Windows as the files are corrupted during defragmenting.

I haven't heard of anybody who defrag regularly getting a corrupted Windows.

I've only heard of corruption of Windows when using programs during defragmenting or when the screensaver starts or whatever things you or the PC does during defragmenting.

Ya, I was told that too much defrag can ruin the HDD, but I got no proof...

A similar thread here. Like what is posted there, there has not been any complains that defragmenting too much can damage a hard disk.

yea… i defrag almost every few days… 5 yrs liao… my harddisk still working fine… where did u hear tat from?

It's up to you to use Safe Mode. Nobody has complained that defragging in Safe Mode kills Windows.

There's nothing to tick for disk defragmenting. Just run it.
