At Geeks to Go, if you have proven yourself well, the moderators may enroll you into Tech U, where you undergo training to help people out in troubleshooting.

I guess its actively helping out in providing solutions to the problems they face there

You need to have both. Both the knowledge of computers (both hardware and software) and be a regular there.

Tech U is a place where you receive proper training, both in writing out a proper reply and learning to spot signs that may indicate either a hardware or software failure.

How do i buck up my knowledge?

Take up a computer lesson?

Get a spare PC, install an OS and start playing with it. Learn to use Google properly for answers to solve any problems you have.

The spare PC need not be brand new, get a second one, running on P3 or maybe lower.

Having lots of tech knowledge means a lot of reading and trying. Don't expect everything in theory to work, they don't.
