So is it from HP and the likes? If yes, get the Recovery CD and recover.

If it's DIY, then reformat and reinstall using the legal copy.

If you have lost the Recovery CD and is using Acer, refer here on how to recover without the Recovery CD.

Do you still have the receipt when you bought the original copy?

If yes, try if can exchange if you bought it less than 30 days ago...

Otherwise, use the pirated one or call up the respective company if it is not a DIY...

Nowhere in this thread did you say that your computer is old...

And I asked about the XP Pro CD (the original one) which you bought... not your PC. If it has been bought less than 30 days ago, you can try exchanging it...

And if your warranty has expired, and you bring it to the respective company for repairs, you have to pay. Just like if you bring to other shops to repair it. Or if they allow, buy the Recovery CD from them.
