Creative Disables FM Recording In Zen

Why ban the invention that humans created? Laughing

Seriously, this whole copyright issue is going too far. The invention of such products is meant for entertainment. Ban this, ban that, might as well destroy them. Rolling Eyes

down with RIAA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! kill them all!!!!!!!!!!!

nightzip SG

hmmmm................

ok lah....dun let it spoil our long weekends.... Mr. Green Laughing
they do theirs, we enjoy what we have loh...

See, most of the latest hits are being broadcast through radio before the album is out as a promo. But ppl record it, and sell them, or allow downloads online.

Yar, you can argue that its like the knife thing. You can use it to kill ppl but that doesn't make knife illegal.

But RIAA is right now pushing the world to a new trend. If something has potential to be used against copyright laws, ban it. Laughing screw them

scabstermooch SG

I think what creative is trying to do is to pre-emptively demonstrate that it has tried to do something about copyright infringement - so that it cannot later be said that Creative knew infringemnt was gg on but did nothing even though it could.

Maybe the fact that the firmware contains this 'feature' is so widely publicised is deliberate IE Leaked?

nightzip SG

Then the idea should be the songs broadcasted on radios as a promo, should be NOT the full thing, but like a short portion of the whole song only....

like what you get for trailers in movies, etc...

that will be good enough...so radio DJs can broadcast "clips" of part of the song, and then talk while the song is playing Laughing to reduce the "purity" of the song. Idea

chenc SG

You still didn't understand the issue.

RIAA is out to make sure that the only way you get to listen to a song wherever you want is to buy it.

hisoka SG

maybe but it remains that they changed the specs of the systems removing features that convinced pple to buy the product in the first place, that sounds shady if you ask me

hisoka SG

yupz so.... kill RIAA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! kill them all!!!!!!!!!!!!! Laughing

ndmmxiaomayi SG

While no doubt that everything has its own good and bad uses, this doesn't give RIAA a reason to do so.

Just like your knife example, it doesn't give them any reason to do so.

scabstermooch SG

Yes it is. Hence, I disagree with this move. Still, we do not know what happened behind closed doors. Who knows, perhaps the RIAA has been round to discuss creative's legal liabilities? Or, perhaps creative did a risk assesement and decided it is not likely to be sued by consumers for something that costs less than $500?

A mystery.

Ah Ma SG

think my creative mp3 still can record..bt i aso nv record b4…mostly use the rip cd to mp3 software

abao SG

The function for Recording a Radio Broadcast, imo, is to record certain programmes or events not normally broadcasted, such as some celebrity interviews or other events.

The average quality of a Radio Broadcast is equivalent to a mp3 codec's 96Kbs at 32Khz, so you cant get a good quality song through recording.

That said, I think its time someone stand up against RIAA's ridiculous actions. Maybe we should start a petition or something?

chenc SG

See, the US Government is firmly behind the RIAA. They make it sound like supporting RIAA is respecting properties rights and all democratic and free country should also acknowledge the association. It is make as if a country that recognizes the RIAA is advanced and its people are more superior than those who do not recognise it. So many countries wanted to bring itself a good name.

But ironically, RIAA only seems to benefit the singers and artists. Allowing them now to be able to afford 2 private jet instead of 1. Laughing
