Lappie lagging when playing video files

My solution is the first one...after uninstalling it no more problem with playing my video...

rainee SG

When I tried to play some of my drama files in both Media Player Classic and Windows Media Player, there are some lags on the screen. As in the images will move smoothly for a few seconds then there will be a pause, skip some images and then went smooth again for a few seconds. After that the whole cycle repeats.

Not sure why this is happening, it was fine when I played the same file a few months ago. I have defragmented my lappie but this problem is still occuring. The drama file is in my C drive by the way.

My lappie now only has 20% free space tho..is this the cause of this problem?

rainee SG

no one has this problem before? Confused

the Bear SG

could be... your video hardware isn't up to it...

either that, or your lappie may be overheating... see if you can get the insides and the heatsink cleaned out...

rainee SG

hmm...thanks for the suggestions...will look into that...

anymore ideas on how to solve this problem?

run a video file and see the resources utilization of all the processes…any particular process tat has abnormal cpu or memory while the video images jerk?

rainee SG

erm sorry...but how to check the resources utilization ah? thx Mr. Green

kaobeikaobu SG

crtl-alt-del...task manager...processes

the Bear SG

xp, it's control-alt-delete

then look for one of the tabs.. i forgot which and i can't check coz i'm using an Apple now Razz

rainee SG

yea, i did that just now...went to processes and look at the programs running...

wat is considered abnormal? My Opera running at 50,000k Shocked

^spidee^ SG

Are you using any other applications while playing the video files?

StarPuppy SG

50 k is way too much liao..shut down ur opera

kaobeikaobu SG

sort the processes by CPU utilization in descending order by clicking the CPU heading…any sharp increase on any process when the video images jerk?

rainee SG

not using them...this morning i wasnt using Opera when I play the video, but the image still dun move smoothly...

rainee SG

hmm wait, i go try dat again...

rainee SG

got sharp increase in mplayerc, wich is the program i use to play the movie file…

kaobeikaobu SG

mplayerc is ur friendly media player classic process...when did this start to happen, or first time playing those files? if first time, either ur laptop cldnt support the rendering or something wrong with ur video files.

rainee SG

not first time playing this file...played it a few months back, dat time nothing happened, no jerks watsoever...

i tried playing other movie files as well, and the images jerk also...so confirmed it is not the problem wif only this file, it is with all video files...

this starts to happen a week ago...dat time my free space in my lappie only 10%, so i started to defrag and dump some useless files and programs away, so now i have 20% of free space.

But problem persists Neutral

abao SG

hmm...

under the view> options> playblack> output,

the video output is set to what?

the default is VMR7 (windowed). Setting to overlay will improve the playback a bit, but you cant save pictures.

Don't open too many tabs. That's the problem of tab browsing, open so many tabs until memory usage is so high. It can cause some lags. If possible, open a few windows to spread the resources usage.

One process using too much memory will slow down the whole computer.

There's a shortcut for Task Manager though. Press Ctrl + Shift + Esc. Saves time. Wink

Try closing Opera and watch that video; there should be significant changes. Very Happy

Are you using the beta version of it? As far as I can gather, the latest stable version is 6.4.9.0

If it is something newer, it might be bugs.
