200GB Maxtor becomes 127GB

Xcert SG

Another problem.

I am using Maxtor DiamondMax 6Y200P0 HDD but my Windows XP Professional(SP2-patched only) can only detect 123GB.My HDD is a 200GB HDD!

I tried to use a Big Drive Enabler software provided by maxtor to enable Windows to detect more than 137GB of HDD but cannot work.

Link : http://www.maxtor.com/portal/site/Maxtor/menuitem.3c67e325e0a6b1f6294198b091346068/?channelpath=%2Fen_us%2FSupport%2FSoftware+Downloads%2FView+By+Category%2FDesktop+Storage/DiamondMax%20Family/Utilities&downloadID=11

the initial installation seem to be OK but the HDD size is still the same...so I ran the file again and it says that the windows registry has already been changed to allow 48-bit LBA and wants me to exit the software(so the software is supposed to have worked)...so I am at a loss on what to do from here...

anyone can help?

ahahh i using seagate 100GB HDD but in the end only can detect 88 GB in my6 com.. hahah same case too…

chanff8 SG

Yours is pretty alright because some of the space may be used up for future formatting purposes.

200 127GB is a pretty huge change. Have you tried testing out the hard disk on another computer?

Xcert SG

SP2.

Xcert SG

yup.still 127GB. Crying or Very sad

Cpt.ZR SG

ahahhaa…. thats what i tot too but hey only 20 gb…

absoluticeberg SG

Hard disk controller too old. Go change motherboard la... hee hee... Next time remember to partition also Smile

^tamago^ SG

the issue is due to a missing support for a format which can support disks above 127GB in SP1..... upgrading to SP2 or downloading the patch from Microsoft KB will help.

it is a known issue. missing 35% of ur available space is simply horrendous.

Xcert SG

problem is that I am already on SP2... Crying or Very sad

alittle bit off topic...my zen micro oso became from 6gb to 5gb... Mad

i have the same exact problem last time, 200Gb maxtor but end up only detect 127gb. Cuz my windows installed w only SP1, subsequently, i reformated and reinstall Windows XP2 (upgrade MUST be together with the install program), then it detected 200Gb perfectly! Very Happy

^tamago^ SG

try patching it anyway. it's a missing support for a type of file system above 127GB. (2^7-1)

alvin-ncs SG

y not try formatting the harddisk again...

cause i buy maxtor 300gb...
but after i install windows i only can see 50gb...

den i format again to get the rest...
making 1 hard disk into 3 part...

haha....
try it out...format it...

troublemaker2005 SG

what nightzip mentioned was slipstream WinXp OS disc with SP2. others made it work too here too!

dun know what mobo and other hardware specs u all using always got prob. all my previous builds also no such prob when u really look for compatible parts and non of them have technology too way before of one another and have to tweak here patch there.

all my previous build i install the original WinXP disc...go into OS, hdd all read correct the i install sp2 also no prob
