troublemaker2005 SG any one can recommend any freeware for video compression. basically i need to compress say a 100mb video file so that it can be played back with lossless image quality and at a new file size of say 60Mb or less? i am capturing motion clips with FRAPs and the files are large. i hope to compress it to a smaller file size without too much loss in image quality. i tried searching the internet but is out of luck so far.
ditzy SG I dunno any that can meet your above specs but I know reencoding the audio from stereo down to mono at a lower bit rate and freq will lop off your video size by at least 40%.
chanff8 SG The only way you can decrease the size is like what ditzy said, reencode the audio... Its practically impossible to encode a video into smaller size with no loss in video quality... Even if its possible, it is definitely not a freeware
abao SG maybe u can try x264 x264.nl to compress the video or XviD http://www.koepi.org/xvid.shtml or DivX http://www.divx.com/ x264 give a better compression while maintaining watchable quality, but its very CPU intensive and will take much longer than the other 2 codecs. You might also want to use VirtualDub as your GUI for encoding video. http://virtualdub.sourceforge.net/ What audio quality are u recording in? maybe u can use iTunes and recompress the audio to a lower bitrate in AAC.
troublemaker2005 SG divx compresses everything without any alteration to all settings and reduced file size by 20%...haven't try the other software yet will report once tried. thanks abao
