error while renaming files

Whenever i try to edit/rename any file on my comp (mp3 , documents ) etc.. a window would pop up saying

"If you change a file name extension , the file may become unusable. are you sure you want to change it ? "

if i click yes..the file would be unable to be open by the applicable program ( eg if i rename a mp3 file it would be unable to be open even by window media player..)

any suggestions??

After you have renamed your file, remember to add in the file extension, for example like Bad Day.mp3 or Porno.mpg or Naked.jpg... Everything will be ok.. Mr. Green

Are our Operating SYstems getting backwards to the prehistoric when you need to type in the file exyension prior to saving/saving as or renaming?

Open My Computer. Go to Tools, Folder Options.

Select the View tab. Under Hidden files and folders, tick Hide extensions of known file types and Hide protected operating system files (Recommended).

Apply the settings. Now you can rename them without any problems.
