R3SsH|n SG i just bought a toshiba external hard disk...just wondering...since its a usb connection...i always plug it out just like that after use...i wonder will it spoil the long period of pulling out unexpectedly...
Ito_^ SG no. but make sure u dun have any programmes or wadever using it when u decide to pull it out. like file transfer. otherwise ur hdd might be corrupted, burnt, etc. but even den, its not dat often dat it will really spoil. things are more sturdy den it was, 5 years ago.
chanff8 SG ^ Agree Most external hard disks have LED lights to indicate whether its busy. Most of the time, slow or non-blinking green lights means the hard disk is inactive, it'll be safe to just plug out. Only in Mac then you have to manually eject every external devices
R3SsH|n SG yea...guess so...thx... just for those who might wanna buy...i got mine at $156...80gb...3yrs warrenty...bought at cybermind 5th floor sim lim...
Gordonator SG i'm also thinking of buying one myself to store my anime and songs. but don't think i need so much as 80Gig. are there still shops selling maybe like 40Gig?
FireIce SG mine is hitachi 80gb 2.5" bought at $180 with casing and pouch hitachi 40gb 2.5" is $130 thereabouts.....
Parka SG It's better to eject manually. i.e. You installed Office on your external and you forgot to close Office and plug out. You might have to install Office again.
Ecxentrique SG are these plug and play? or need installation? besides 40 and 80gb? wat other sizes do they come in? and hw much? over 100gb?
chenc SG If over 100GB i suggest you to buy data archive machines. They tend to come cheaper in terms of very large memories. theres 200GB and 400GB and many more.
FireIce SG if u are using winxp, it's plug and play (via USB) if u are on older OS, usually there is a CD with driver for u to install got 100gb, 120gb, 160gb, 200gb...... $200 and above......
chenc SG Depends on whether you only want the storage feature or database feature. Some like Sony can be plugged into your computer and will auto make database and backup, with a lot of protection features as well. These are usually larger in size, maybe the size of a complete Oxford English dictionary. Those with large storage but no features can be as small as the size of 2 notebook harddisk stack together.
Ecxentrique SG had some colleagues who uses portable HDD.. they were saying although use USB but still need to install.. not sure if they are referrring to older models..
Ecxentrique SG was thinking of something like the portable HD type.. but its OK.. maybe i will take less than 100gb
