Forced Browsing in Firefox

the title's a bit odd.. but i can't think of a better way to put this problem..

anyway here goes.. need help from the pros of this forum..

There are some apps (i.e. MSN) that links to certain websites.. however... they start up in IE (which i dun want).. despite me setting FF as the default browser.. is there a higher edit to allow everything to be opened in FF? If there is? hwo do i go about doing it?

You can't force MSN websites in Firefox.

But other websites will auto open in Firefox.

First, uninstall Firefox. Download the latest stable version of Firefox and install it. Once installation is done, and Firefox prompts you whether you want it to be the default browser, select yes.

No way of setting MSN Messenger to open in Firefox. I've kinda pissed at this too. Microsoft pretended that MSN Messenger cannot be configured to open in other browsers but other instant messaging clients which allows MSN/Hotmail accounts can do that so clearly MS is lying.

Actually, links in MSN can be opened with IE AND Avant Browser. Rocks.

I think half of the pre-installed applications in windows will break down... IE is tied to many windows applications

Theres no option to uninstall IE as well, unless you download an old copy of Windows Antispyware (Now named Windows Defender) which had a bug, detecting IE as spyware and actually removing it. Many people cheered but MS soon released a patch for it

I think theres an option to uninstall IE. Control Panel ---> Add remove program ---> Windows component tag
Uncheck IE and click ok.

However, thought I also hate the fact that some MS applications just open up IE even though I want FF, I think keeping IE is good. Not that IE itself is good, but just that sometimes some website can have problems with FF. This used to be often last times, but now FF is getting a bigger and bigger coverage. Still just keep IE for backup

There are extensions for Firefox like IE Tab and IE View to let you use IE engine for certain websites when using Firefox

Well, that's with the older versions of MSN. Just reinstall all browsers and set them as default when they prompt you to, next time all links will open with the default browser.

The latest version of MSN, which is Windows Live Messenger 8.0 Beta doesn't allow you to, no matter what you do. There's no tweak for this sadly.

All MS applications by default will open up in IE, until something is done to your default browser. By the time Vista is released, I doubt this is possible. Even with Windows Live Messenger, links failed to work when Firefox is the default browser. Only when IE is, links will work.

Yep, i also keep IE despite using FF but it is there as a backup only. There are several security issues with IE so if you are engaged in e-commerce or do any transactions online, safer to use FF.
