AMD is a chip maker, this i suppose you will know.
While Intel has chips models range from...
Pentium Core Duo
Pentium Extreme Edition
Pentium D
Pentium 4
Pentium 4 HD Tech
Pentium M
Intel Celeron D
Pentium Itanium 2
Pentium Xeon
etc etc
AMD has different models as well
AMD Athlon
AMD Athlon 64Fx
AMD Athlon 64 x2 Dual-Core
AMD Sempron
AMD Turion
AMD Opteron
AMD Opteron Dual-Core
etc etc
The reason why many people dislike AMD or never even hear about it
is because of its history of low-performing and unreliability.
However the company has gone through some revolution and its new
generations of processors and chipsets are very reliable and
stable, matching Intel.
Though AMD's flaw is that its chips heat up too much, this issues
can easily be solved with better CPU case. AMD is currently the
leader in high end and cutting edge gaming PCs. AMD's graphice
solution are far better than Intel.
However, Intel's Itanium and Xeon formed the Windows Server System,
which is still the top choice for giant cooperations' network
system in the world now
