Screen goes blank/gets corrupted every now and then

Big big big headache Evil or Very Mad

My screen goes blank for 1-3 seconds every now and then(every few minutes). Sometimes(not very often) display get corrupted but its reversible(e.g. by minimizing that specific window and restoring it again).

Updated chipset and BIOS and graphics card driver already. RAM card reassembled. Also reformatted my system.

It goes blank every few minutes could be due to you using a blank screensaver.

Your corrupted display, what do you mean by that? Distorted colours? Or blotchy images?

Have you tried using another graphics card? It could be your graphics card is spoilt.

Nope...checked. definitely not screensaver...

Could be graphics card, could be monitor...sigh

Corrupted as in you can see the images being split into pieces and arranged in other ways if you know what I mean...

It sounds like a graphic card problem, I am not too sure.

How long do you keep your computer on per day? Maybe giving it a rest would help.

I use it for only a few hours a day...and I don't have another graphics card to test...
What else can I do? Sad

Plug your graphics card into another computer and try. Or plug your monitor into another system

If you have a spare PC, take out the graphics card and monitor and test it. Otherwise, you can borrow your friend's PC and test it.

Update: Monitor turns off (power saving mode whereby the power indicator light flashes) while the computer is running. Tried moving the mouse but no use. Had to restart. I’m using Philips 17 inch CRT btw. Graphics card or monitor problem?

unable to pin-point but maybe you can write off the suspect with a one to one swap? better yet.. call the professional if you can't afford to wait.

We can't tell unless you try using the monitor or graphics card on another system...

I really can't tell without you testing on another PC. You have to test it and tell us the results.
