anhydrouscoppersulphate SG my com cannot read chinese characters on websites. how can i, without using the window xp cd solve this problem
chanff8 SG If your using Internet Explorer, Right-click, encoding, choose either Unicode or one of the chinese options Firefox, View, character encoding, unicode (UTF-8 ) or one of the chinese options
ndmmxiaomayi SG Go to Start --> Control Panel --> Regional and Language Options. Click the Languages tab. Under the Supplemental Language Support textbox, is the "Install Files for East Asian languages" box checked? If it is not, you will have to install it first. Alternatively, install a Chinese software. It will let you read Chinese words, but you have to turn it on every time before you can read it.
chanff8 SG in this case you might want to install NJStar Communicator and let it run while you surf chinese websites
chanff8 SG I've noticed something weird. Original Windows XP from some computer brands still requires you to insert Windows XP disc before it can install Files for East Asian Languages. But some brands like Acer does not need the disc to install.
ndmmxiaomayi SG Don't know why. Probably they changed something so that you don't need the disc. Acer even lets you re-install without using the XP disc..... but have to do some things before you can do that. Very ma fan. Use disc faster.
chanff8 SG Really? Have been using Acer for the past 3 years but I dunno about that. I only know when you first buy it it'll prompt you to create backup CDs or DVD, which is the same as burning another copy of Windows XP disc for reformatting purposes
ndmmxiaomayi SG Got meh? Mine don't need leh. Probably only the newer Acer models (I bought mine this year)
kc_leung SG bought my acer laptop in sept this year. it came with a set of "recovery cd"... containing customised norton ghost and a ghost of the hard drive. so a XP "reinstall" is not really a install using original XP CD... the hard drive just gets overwritten with the ghost image.
kc_leung SG acer keeps the XP install source files in a hidden folder on C:\ (if i'm not wrong it is c:\i386) it is similar to the office 2003 install, where at the end of the install you are given the choice to remove the "installation source files" to save 200+ MB of disk space (but the installer doesn't recommend to remove them).
