What about the grading system you don't get? Not very different from O levels.

If you're referring to the NUS / NTU / SMU / etc Indicative Grade Profiles, the X X X / Y refers to your H2 H2 H2 / H1 grades, assuming you score at least a C grade for GP and PW. Note that some courses, eg. Law, requires an A grade in GP.

I heard A is 20, B is 17.5 , C is 15 and so on. If I want to get into that uni course, other than the grades, would the points be considered as well? Cause the required grades for GP and PW are not stated. So, if i score the minimum grade and C for both GP and PW, is there a high chance I can get in?

Oh and also, for the MT scores in JC1 right, are they considered in the uni courses as well?

Hello! I would like to receive some advice on where to go after my O'Levels.

My results:

EL: B4

EMath & Bio & Geography : A2

AM & Chinese : A1

Chem & Combined Humanities : B3

L1R5= 12-2=10 L1R4 = 10-2=8

I stay at Toa Payoh so i'm thinkng of taking the Science Stream at SRJC and CJC. However, my english is just a B4, so i'm afraid it will affect my gp. I'm also considering pharmaceutical science and accountancy at NP.

I want to ask, if i am a 16 y/o N level graduate currently in ITE now (i started on Jan 9 this year) is it possible to go back to sec 5 to take my O levels WITHOUT being a private candidate? I really don't like it here and my N aggregate was 11 and i don't think ITE is worth my grades ( i got tricked into the DPP programme i thought i'd def be guaranteed a position in poly). My N level results:

EL - 1
Maths - 2
Science (phys/chem) - 2
Combined humanities (SS/HIST) - 1
MT - 5
(i dont have a 6th subject because i dropped art already)
My current worry now is that i'll fail chinese really badly i've already forgotten what i've learnt and it would affect my Os. I plan to finish my O levels and be eligible for Poly and take the electronics/electrical engineering course.

UAS (Uni Admission Score) is to allow you to enter into a Uni's faculty or school. Once you've successfully done so, then you can take any course within that particular school. The points are what's relevant, in admission.

There's a good chance, yes. That's why it's called IGP (Indicative Grade Profile). But bear in mind that like the JCs' cut-off score, even if you score the same grades and UAS as the stated IGP, you may not get in. So it's important to score *better* than the stated IGP. In addition, as with JCs' cut-off scores, the IGPs given are for the previous year, and with greater demand (including competition from foreigner students) comes more demanding IGPs or cut-off scores.

English isn't GP, no worries. And you can always get help from a good tuition, in GP and in any H2 subject.

Go ahead and apply for both your desired Poly courses, as well as SRJC and CJC (prioritize whichever is nearer to your home). Then, while waiting for acceptance, think over carefully which route you really want, in the event you're accepted by both (for JC route, add in a couple of JCs whose cut-off is a couple of points worse than your L1R5, as a safety net).

For Poly route, it's important to only apply for courses that you would seriously consider accepting, and not apply for some easy to get into course for the sake of applying (or you may regret it if you really get it).

Nonetheless, for the sake of other students reading this thread, here's my reply again :

Take H2 Bio. Because H2 Sciences are more valuable than H2 Arts / Humanities subjects, in terms of courses that you can apply for in the Uni.

You don't even need Econs at A levels (whether H1 or H2) to study Econs in the Uni. But you do need H2 Chem for all Science courses and H2 Physics for all Engineering courses. H2 Bio is necessary for Pharmacy.

For Medicine (NUS & NTU), you'll need H2 Chem + H2 Bio, or H2 Chem + H2 Physics.

Apart from the conditional JC/Poly admissions involving O level English, the point of retaking O levels is to improve on all your scores, thereby giving you more options (both JC and Poly) upon scoring better results on the retake.

Of course, just the act of retaking O levels is by itself no guarantee that your results will improve, it's up to your own determination and perseverance. If you don't have the determination and perseverance to ensure that your results will improve across all subjects, then don't bother retaking.

Poly dont have conditional admission :( i now very confuse if i should just retake or retake and study a poly course this year? but i do not want to waste my parents money as my family is not super rich. Do give me advice !!

Can anyone tell me more about the Business Studies and Tourism & Resort Management in NP as well as Business Administration and Tourism & Resort Management in SP? (I've heard a bit when I went for their open house but I'd like to know more from other people's perspectives) It'll be good if you can talk more about the prospects of it in the future. Would it be better if I go from DTRM to studying business in Uni since it's more diverse? Thanks in advanced.

Depends on whether you're confident you can retake O levels + study Poly simultaneously, as each will distract you from the other.

If you're not confident, better focus on doing well on your O levels retake alone.

You've no chance for SAJC and TJC, because cut-off points have to be strictly enforced, non-DSA appeals are useless.

If it's indeed this year's COP, it means you got no chance at all (because even if you zhun zhun on the COP, you only got 50% chance of getting in). But no real harm putting in, just that you waste that 1st (or 1st few) slot(s). So if you want to hope this year's COP is 1 point worse than last year's, go ahead and try.

For Medicine and Law, it's very difficult to get in even after scoring AAA/A, because 2000+ JC students get AAA/A every year, and there are only 200+ places for Medicine (NUS & NTU) and 200+ places for Law (NUS & SMU). So that's only 20% chance of getting in, even after you score AAA/A.

Wise choice of H2 subjects. There's a good reason why H2 PCM is the most popular subject combination across all JCs, because it opens the most paths in Uni.

As for H1 Geog vs H1 Econs, depends on personal interest (check out the detailed H1 syllabi for both subjects on SEAB's website) and which is more useful for your intended future Uni studies and career. If both irrelevant to future Uni studies and career, then see which you've more interest in, because your interest will determine how well you perform (applies to academia as well *heh*).
