The final results, used in applying for JC/Poly/ITE/MI/private,
is entirely based on O level results. Only O level.
Of course, if you are taking N level and you are among the top N
level students, you can gain admission into Polytechnic year zero.
(through-train) It's called the Polytechnic Foundation
Programme.
If you are a N level student, to go up to Sec 5 to take O level,
you have to do well in N level. I am sure you already know
this.
Whereas for the school preliminary exams, it is used primarily
as a gauge for you to see how ready you are for the big national
examinations. If that preliminary exam is prior to the actual O
levels, it is used secondarily in Direct School
Admissions into the Polytechnics and Junior
Colleges, if you want to participate in Direct School
Admissions.
At Westwood Secondary School (as at year 2012), we have two
preliminary exams prior to the national exams. One in July
immediately after June holidays, second around national day
holiday. If you are interested in getting the Good Progress Award,
Bursary, Edusave Merit award, etc., you may want to know that the
selection from graduating students is from the first preliminary
examination in July. Because the first prelim is really the school
set itself. The second prelim the questions is usually take from
other school prelim papers (some available for sale in the
market). At
least that is how it's done at WWSS (as at year
2012). It may be different at
your secondary school.
One advice I have here:
Please improve on your English. Improve on your grammar, improve
on your spelling. Avoid using short form or punctuation.
