BTW, scientists have accepted evolutionary theory "happily", even knowing that this theory has many gaps and controversies in it. They have their own agendas in promoting certain philosophies. I have to tell myself to take a pinch of salt when I study the sciences.

phylogeny is a tree of evolution, branching out as each organism evolves through the ages, goes extinct and new organismes evolve from the original one. While classification is simply a table to put each organism under - species, genus etcetc.

Both sort out organisms based on particular characteristics but phylogeny take into consideration of evolutionary relatedness.

Analogous structure may be used for classification but not phylogeny.\

If you are speaking about A levels ,

(d) Explain the relationship between classification and phylogeny. (Evolutionary relationships between organisms should be reflected in systematic classification.) Classification is the organisation of species according to particular characteristics. Classification may not take into consideration evolutionary relationship between the species. Phylogeny is the organisation of species according to particular characteristics which takes into consideration the evolutionary relationship between the species.
