O level physics Tensional strength help

Hi, can someone pls help me to explain tensional force? cos in sec 3 textbook there was 1 question on tensional force but it was not taught there, i learnt that tensional force is experience by a string when there is a weight hanged onto it and it is opposite to the weights direction of force. like

10N<-->10N-------- the other 10N is the tensional strength of the string.

so i thought that all tensional strength case will be at constant velocity. but in the textbook case the Forward force is greater than the tensional force. ( a tow truck pulling the car) so i dont really understand much about the tensional force. pls help me to explain this. thanks so much for the help

Hi,

It is always good to clarify with your teacher. The school textbook should also come with explanations which would clarify some of your doubts. Scrutinise the words again and again and come to an understanding after some reflection. Thanks.

Why would you link tensional strength with constant velocity?

The definition is correct, so I can't see where you do not understand the meaning of tension. It is the application portion which I guess you do not know, and this boils down again to the concept of the free body diagram. Have you clarified with your teacher or tutor on the free body diagram?

for wee ws, i have read thru the textbook n they dont have anything about tensional force so i cant quite understand it. they onli gave a question with worked solution about it.

Hi, try to think of tension as a force that "pulls" or "stretches" an object.

An object will only remain at constant velocity if the net force is zero, so if tensional force on a string is equal and opposite to the weight hung on it, then that is true.
