I notice in recent years tsunamis has been a quite common and controversial natural disaster. For example, the 2004 Indian tsunami and now quite recently, there has been a warning of a carribean tsunami because of a magnitude 7.0 earthquake that occurred in Haiti. Generally, there would be a substantial loss of life and a drastic change in the affected community's economy. What else are the effects of tsunamis on society?

1. Increased awareness of the effects of extreme climate changes due to human activities;

2. Need for a comprehensive global early-warning system to detect coming tsunamis and evacuate communities of people on a timely basis; and
