Hi all. another SPA question.
Potassium Hexocyroferrate will reaction with:
Fe2+ to form pale blue ppt,
Fe3+ to form prussian blue ppt,
Cu2+ to form reddish brown ppt,
Ni2+ to form light green ppt,
and Zn2+ to form white ppt.
This is found in my SPA manual. My question is, are there any
other cations that will result in oberservable ppt which are not
listed above? Like say maybe zinc, lead etc
There are certainly other cations the cyano ligands (ie. the -CN
ion, with the negative formal charge on the C atom which is hence
the dative bond donor) can complex with, but the ones listed in
your SPA manual are just aboutĀ theĀ ones you need to know
for your SPA. You're not required to memorize these colours
(relevant data will always be provided), so don't worry too much
about it.
