Hi, am going to Sec 3 next year. My EOY result is suck...my parents are disappointed as they hv spent so much tuition $...I have studied hard...but...overall 55.6%. Any advices?

Eng 57, Chinese 52, Math 70, science 65, geog 53, hist 51 and lit 59.

What subject combination should I take? My sch humanities- elect lit, elect geog, elect hist, pure geog and pure lit. Chem is a MUST.

This looks similar to my results. Better in science and maths but weak in everything else :p

I will advice u to do double science, double maths and single humans with 2 language. That will give u 1 of the most options in future.

Ur maths is not bad so physics and chem should be fine for u unless u have a real strong interest in bio and plans to do something relating to bio in future.

Err.. pls drop history you are not doing well. Ya physics and chemistry you sure score well. cos you good in math. Take A math as well. Go for geo so that you can score by calculation.

Post the questions u do not understand on the forums.

If u feel that u have problems answering ur science questions, maybe u can post the questions as well as ur answers and everyone can discuss and offer advice how it should be answered.

Regarding games, try to control urself and not let ur parents control u only. Treat games as a reward after u have studied etc and not keep having games on ur mind when u are supposed to be studying.

pls dun say study hard... ur result lidat u dare say study hard... study hard is not equal to sitting there staring at ur book for 10 hours... study hard can be 2 hour but u really learn a lot.. pay attention in class is most important...

my suggestion, if u are memorise type de student, go for history elect, 1 pure sci and 1 comb sci. double maths, and of cuz MT and eng..

if u are those understand to score type de student.. go for elect geo, 2 pure sci, 2 maths, and of cuz MT and eng...

and sec 2 stuff is so easy that i only need to pay attention in class to score... btw.. to study effectively, pls understand every sentence u read...

Hi Tony,

As you have mentioned yourself, your main weakness lies in the structured questions. Instead of having tuition, perhaps you will want to purchase some self-help books to work on so as to improve on this particular area.

As for computer gaming, unfortunately it is a favourite activity of most guys, thus it is unrealistic to ask you to quit gaming altogether. Instead, you could try playing only on Sundays, and only for a few hours each week.

As for subject combinations, you should edge towards the science side and take up Physics with Chemistry, along with double maths. For the humanities, perhaps you should try seeing where your interest lies.

English and Chinese is a must.

Amaths and emaths is a must.

Take up pure chemistry (yes, it's the best science to take) and pure physics (easier than bio, in terms of content and bell curve).

Drop to combined science if you don't obtain a B3 in either pure science by the end of next year. Take my word for it.

As your english is weak with only a C5 grade, but your literature turns out to be your best humanities, I highly recommend you stick with the usual Social Studies + History Elective combination.

I scored A1 in English, Chinese, Science, Maths, History, Literature and Geography in secondary 2, just in case you're wondering.

A maths is highly adviced cos there is alot of need for it in future especially if u wanna go into a science related course. Only for arts students is A maths not essential.

POA nothing to do with A maths and is not exactly a useful subject unless u interested in accounts though from what i heard from the accounts students in uni, POA is quite useless cos won't help what they study,

If got double sciences and able to get into it, try to go for it. Also take up A Maths if you are intending to go to the Science, Engineering or Tech field.

But if can't get in (my understanding of getting into Science stream is that results must be pretty good, about 70% overall, could be higher or lower depending on what school you are in, no offense), may want to consider the History Elective or Pure Geography option.
