How to do?
A polymomial, p(x), when divided by (x^2 - 1), leaves a
quadratic quotient. and no remainder. The constant term in p(x) =
10. Given further that p(x) leaves remainders of 630 and 112 when
divided by (x - 4) and (x + 3) respectively, find
i) an expression for p(x) in descending powers of x.
(5marks!)
ans: p(x) = 3x^4 + x^3 -13x^2 - x +10
ii) the solutions when p(x) = x^2 - x + 10
(3marks)
ans: x = 0, -7/3 , 2
Thanks a lot
U should know that p(x) is in the form of Ax^4 + Bx^3 + Cx^2 +
Dx + 10 base on the question.
Using all the information given, sub in x = 1, x= -1, x=4 and x
=-3 to get 4 equations which you should be able to manipulate to
solve for ABCD.
