Is 2,4,6-trimethylphenol able to react with bromine?
My guess is it can since all the substituents are EDG but all
the ortha and para positions relative to the OH group are taken up
so I'm not sure about it..
Besides OH, do note that all the 3 methyl group are o/p
directing as well though they are not as strong as the OH. The o/p
positions to the 3 methyls are free.
This molecule is heavily substituted though so the chance of
another reaction is unlikely to be high and even if possible,
likely to be slow.
Haven't touched my organic chem in over a year and no intentions
to touch organic till next year so not going to go check whether
this is going to be possible :p
