I need help with describing how to carry out an experiment to
determine the specific latent heat of fusion of ice. I have a rough
idea.
As Q = ml, we need to know the energy supplied and also mass of
ice that has changed into liquid/ vice versa
we supply power from a known power source. And in order to find
the energy supplied for the melting process, we need to know the
time taken for ice to melt. When do we start the timeclock and stop
it? Also, the mass of ice that has melted, is it referring to only
that massmelted during the melting process or the entire mass of
ice that has melted(since the ice will all melt anyway) . This
question seems weird, I know.
Anyway, if you know of a better experiment, can you explain it
to me? Thanks
let me give it a try, i noe that tys got 1 is about mlv.
q= mlf . obviously u use a heater . oven (undecided) ?
then p=q/t
u will need a therm
because mlf is the
time to change water to ice w/o change in temp or vice
versa.
for convience sake. i would use a small block of ice , with a
therm frozen in it .
meaning i freeze water together with therm.
eg. 1 small cube in which i find its mass and hold the therm at
the middle ? (understand ? )
then i start timing
when temp =0 and i stop when all the ice turn into water at 0
deg.
assumption would be heat absorbed is constand throughout the
ice.
rough answer. u try to improve on it ?
