Chocolate Cake SG

Q1 Plum trees are erected every 5 m along a road divider on both ends. On the same road divider, pine trees are planted every 3 m on both ends. If there are 20 more pine trees than plum trees, What is the distance of the road divider? How many plum and pine trees are there altogether?

Q2 54 trees were planted to form a regular hexagon track. Each side of the hexagon is of the same length. Find the number of trees on each side of the hexagon.

2. first, draw a hexagon, that will help you to see what is going on. so it's 54 / 6 = 9. however, this is not the answer as 1 tree from the next side is also included. so each side has 9 + 1 = 10

If the amount of money left was $86.35 more than half of the amount he had at first, how much money did Sam have at first ?

The P6 syllabus is now teaching algebra albeit in a slightly modified way than what you learn in secondary school.

They use rectangular blocks instead of alphabets.

=P fine then. let x be the distance of the road divider. x/3-x/5 = 20 ==> x = 150 m. number of trees should be 82. draw your own model. =P

you could also just find the HCF of 5 and 3, find the difference in number of threes between them, then find the distance you need to make a difference of 20 trees. this is probably the way that you are required to do.
