Functions of the Gas Oven Thermostat

Hi Guys!

Need a little help here. I have no idea how the gas oven thermostat works or even or a thermostat works. I read up quite a few articles but still am quite unsure regarding the workings behind thermostats.

It'd be great if someone could explain to me step-by-step the workings of the thermostat and more specifically the gas oven thermostat. By the way, why is it that a thermostat will not work if the 2 metals are made of the same material?

I understand that it is due to the different degrees of bending and expansion but other than that, am completely clueless. And how can you actually adjust the temperature of the thermostat?

A simplified and detailed explanation would be excellent. Thanks all!

Not 100% sure though

A thermostat works by bending itself to sort of gives a open connection and stops the the appliance from working. Different metals have different rates of expansion so a combination of 2 metals will will affect how much and at roughly what temperature the thermostat will bend till it disconnects the circuit.

It cannot work with the same metal since it would have even expansion and thus would not be able to break the circuit.

U controlled the temperature by your choice of metal, it cannot be adjusted unless by replacing with another thermostat made from different metals.

Thermostat can be adjusted by
1) Choice of metals
2) Distance of the bimetallic strip from the point of contact
