I need help with WORD equations.
At O level, the only oxides we need to know are:
Aluminium oxide Al2O3
Zinc oxide ZnO
Lead (II) oxide PbO
So assuming that they react with sodium hydroxide,
Aluminium oxide + Sodium Hydroxide --> Sodium
Aluminate + water
Zinc oxide + sodium hydroxide --> Sodium
Zincate + water
Lead (II) oxide + sodium hydroxide --> Sodium
Plumbate + water
Are the bold words correct?
If so, do Aluminite, Zincite and Plumbite exist?
If so, when do we use them?
Thanks for any help. It is greatly appreciated. :D
Garrick, at 'O' levels, you need only know (the names, not the
formulae of) "Aluminate", "Zincate" and "Plumbate", for
amphoteric salts. No "Aluminite, Zincite and Plumbite", rest
assured.
Of course, your 'O' level question might give you a question
that includes the formula of these amphoteric salts, but the
formulae would be given to you as part of the question.
You will only be required to answer questions based on the data
(including formulae) given; you're not required to memorize the
formulae of these amphoteric salts.
