striderz_o405 SG hmm what should i watch out for other than the following? an ox (anode-oxidation) cat red (cathode-reduction) electrolysis: A+ C- galvanic: A- C+
maxtonian SG electrolysis: there are H+ and OH- ions participating in the process. just beware of this. dont make careless mistakes.
striderz_o405 SG ok thanks luckily you reminded me. it's only for aqueous solutions and not molten states btw. then anything for galvanic cell ?
maxtonian SG galvanic cell got salt bridge( usually the compound is KCl, if i'am not wrong), so as to maintain the neutrality between solutions. also, galvanic cell got the S.H.E, remember the standard conditions for the process[ 1moldm^-3, 278k, etc]
striderz_o405 SG 298K btw, not 278K and btw how do i know if i put SHE on left or right? or rather anode or cathode?
maxtonian SG to deteremine whether left or right, depends on which metal they give u lor. if metal A has the electrode potential > 0, hydrogen undergoes oxidation. if metal B has the electrode potential < 0 , hydrogen undergoes reduction
