Simon Dean SG Here is a great old photo we were sent of Chinese Kung Fu Master, Wang Zi Ping, who was famed for his incredible strength. As noted in 72 Consummate Arts Secrets of the Shaolin Temple "It is made of granite stone or green stone.", which would make me guess the weight to be between 45 and 70 pounds. Certainly an impressive bent press for any age. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=F1WM6RUQxd4 Thx to Jonathan Boey
eagle SG I estimate the size of the block is 15cm by 45 cm by 30 cm. Space for the hand estimated to be around 15 cm by 15 cm by 15 cm Taking into account that the density of granite is 2.75g/cm^3, the weight is around 46.4kg Shaolin monks are not only famed for their internal art. External arts too. I've read an article on how the martial arts monks train. They run (5km? forgot) every morning, then do martial arts, including zhan zhuang and techniques. Somewhere in between is breakfast, I forgot when. Then the "training" most similar to weight training would be carrying buckets of water here and there in the afternoon. Do note that they are vegetarians.
eagle SG can u imagine the weight of some of the metal weapons? Include the fact that they hold it at the end of the weapon, with some physics, included, the amount of strength and stamina required is extreme!
Marco_Simone SG That's a fossil-a bent press. Try doing this at a commercial gym today and people will look at you as if you are from outer space.
eagle SG Yeah, a world without meat, eggs and protein powders. the instructor will stop u before you do finish your set
