Fad diets(commercial or not) like the cambridge diet or those
endorsed by mediacorp celebrities are actually making you
fatter/unhealthier in the long run. This also applies to
near-starvation diets.
1)The diet is extremely calorie defict, some even calling for
400kcals to be consumed a day. This diet severely decreases
testerone production, thyroid function and lots of other
stuff.Harmful for growing teenagers. But i guess you get the
idea.
Unknown to many, testerone is a great fat- burner as well. Then why
are you decreasing it??
2)Dont be over the moon to find out that you have lost 1kg in a
matter of 2-3 days.Remember why they call it WEIGHT loss NOT FAT
loss.I can gurantee you for every pound of fat you lose, you lose
even more muscle.
Muscles are the ones which aid in losing fat, so you are already
disadvantaged.
3)With reference to 1), i have browsed through most fad
diets.
They have 1)Low quality protein(some are almost 0 protein) and
nutrients
2)Almost nil vitamins
3)No variety of nutrients
Dont be surprised to get mineral/vitamin deficiency.
4)With reference to 2).Please reflect on this for a while.Muscles
are what makes us lean. When on a low calorie diet, muscles are the
first to get wasted. After the diet, you may have a higher
bodyfat%.Doesnt that make you fatter? To reiterate, you lose muscles
which is yet another tool for losing fat.
Maybe for every 5kg of fat lost in the diet 8kg can be
muscle.
End result?
A skinny body like a bamboo pole but a big stomach.
In conclusion, fad diets are unhealthy and stupid.Waste of money as
well. But if you choose to bury your face in the sand then good luck
to you!
