Well, doctors are also humans. Not all of them bother to read up
on research. Many of them also subscribe to myths and/or do stupid
stuff. For example my physiotherapist at CGH
actually has me on an exercise bike to warmup for 15min before
doing stretching, even though it is now known that stretching is
best done cold, not warmed up. She also had me doing traverse hip
adduction/abduction on a machine, which is known to cause
piriformis problems, and this is a physiotherapist/specialist who’s
supposed to help people recover from injuries. When it comes to
training matters, doctors/specialists usually don’t know too much
unless they are competitive athletes themselves.
