Something is very wrong if the bar breaks hanging anything less than say 400kg on it, and that's probably a very conservative number too.

I only wedge 5kg between my legs as warmup, the "gym instructor" said that the excess weight can destroy the bar.

The same instructor who told me that putting a 10kg dumbbell on the bench(was using it for light dumbbell presses) would split the wood.Bishan . Rolling Eyes

Haha that’s even more ludicrous than the time I was trying to do weighted dips with a 30kg dumbbell between my legs at YCK Clubfit. The “instructor” there, who was this fat dude who was just sitting at the counter all this time, told me it would spoil the dip machine(it was one of those assisted dip/chinup machines. I tried to explain to him that I wasn’t putting the extra weight on the weight slabs, but rather between my legs, so it would just be like a heavier person was dipping, but he would have none of it, even after I told him that I and many others were able to perform this exercise at Bishan/Yishun without any intervention at all, but still he just quoted “it’s our policy”.

Well I don’t know if he’s the instructor or the attendent but he’s fat, maybe in his late 30s or early 40s. He was trying to patronize me by saying something like “yeah i know what you wanna, sometimes when i use the machines i also add more weights to it, but we have rules blah blah”...I was thinking I don’t think he can even lift half the stack at his current state, much less add any more weight to it. Oh well, it was a 1 time visit anyway and the gym is super small so I won’t ever go there again.

go to clementi one loh...i been there for 2+ years already...they have ladies instructors, all very friendly one...

one even was in the TCS reality fitness show last time.
They like to chat with you like friends. Now got 2 guys there, one younger, another older, also very friendly. Very Happy

she was there 2 yrs back, nowadays never see her, maybe she swapped shifts, cuz i always go there ard 8-10pm?

Now got 2 ladies, 2 guys, all got some knowledge in gym as well. AND you can sometimes see them working out on the equipment when they swapped shifts!

like the autie you said, she always work out after she changed over shift.

The atmosphere there also quite good, cuz when you been there for more than 1 year, you get to know people there. So you always greet them and do work out together. Very Happy

Hmm, this forum cannot quote? Anyway, replying to Maco_Simone, I used to do weighted dips with dumbbells, but now that I’ve grown out of the heaviest available at my gym, I use my own home made ghetto belt to do it with plates.

den i was wonder which idiot left the barbell (i tink 20-30kg) cant remember

den one auntie came along and start curling the 20 or 30 kg barbell in a half bending position
