sillyme SG Both of you have an interesting hobby I don't collect dolls. But I remember playing with cut-out paper dolls, those where you can change their outfit.
Chin Eng SG Well... the only customization I allow are the weapons... and I do have a fixation on Katanas.... Some customization are done on the repeats... no need to have two dolls all dressed up the same way. We (the wifey and I) do not believe in keeping dolls in their box.... no point... can't show off the true beauty. So ice, post your dolls leh.... start a new thread, or dump them here... no difference... just sharing our passions... and no controversy
laoda99 SG i think i played with that too first time i change a girls' clothes how old are u sillyme?
Icemoon SG Hmm .. what is a barbie comb? Actually can just take any comb, but I read there are techniques like dipping them in hot water to style. Of course you can apply shampoo and wax.
Chin Eng SG barbie has this in some of their dolls, especially the consumer version, for the little xmm to comb their dolls' hair... the collector's edition (which my wife collects) do not usually come with combs.
sillyme SG Bo bian lah. Last time poor. Limited toys. So share toys with sisters lor... Only secondary school then start to buy M.A.S.K and transformers.
Icemoon SG Most takara dolls come dressed in a tight rubber suit, as in they are not cloths like barbies. Furthermore their boots are screwed on. So there is really no point in customizing their outfit like other 'costume dolls'. Since takara dolls are designed to hold weapons, I guess it is the best we can do. Ohh .. you don't believe in NRFB? Same here! Yea .. will do. One of the dolls just had a haircut, courtesy by my friend.
Icemoon SG Actually most barbies do not come with combs. Maybe only those 'make-up' series for xmm come with them. The collector's edition .. most of the dolls their hair is 'gelled' or tied. So want to comb also cannot. PS: Actually when I'm replying to Unker Eng, I'm actually writing to the audience, cos this kind of things Unker will surely know .. after all his wife has 100+ dolls. Sample size big enough.
Icemoon SG Actually I have a question for you. Since barbies are shrunk-down version of a real human being, do you think their hair is shrunk down also? Technically, barbies belong to the 1/6 group, meaning they are 1/6 of a real human being. So you think their hair is 1/6 of a real human hair? Maybe 1/6 of a real cork hair.
Icemoon SG Actually among the professional barbie collectors in Singapore .. there are more guys than girls.
choco B SG What is cork hair? Sorry I only played with dolls, not a connoiseur From my recollection, I think the hair is not shrunk down. In fact, some really fine human hair is finer than Barbie hair However the Barbie comb is useful because ~ it fits into Barbie's hand - she needs to comb her hair too, right? ~ finer-toothed. Regular comb with too wide teeth will not comb properly. However you can use those really fine-teeth normal-sized comb too (the type with the long pointy stick end that Bengs used to carry )
