Nikon ED lenses should be quite sharp.....can see from uncle chin eng's pics....

anyway if used to shoot objects that cannot move....any digicam will do

laoda99 SG

Uncle....the D40 series can only use expensive AFS lenses (coz no built-in AF motor in the camera)...cannot AF with AF or third party lenses which do not have built in motor

best u get other series

if u have $$$, buy the Fujifilm S5 Pro....it is good!!!

Chin Eng SG

D40 has a package that includes two lenses, unfortunately the D40x does not have any package.....

Sony A100 also has packages that allow you to pick and choose lenses, plus they throw in the GPS recorder, and a 80Gb harddisk player for archival and viewing.

Still undecided.

Nope. Fuji is not a brand I'd consider.

Icemoon SG

which reminds me .. they say Canon's trademark is that their picture is not sharp? Their cameras seem to produce pictures with the "soft" look.

laoda99 SG

If u buy D40 series, u will be stuck to using expensive AFS lenses or Sigma HSM mount....u will not be able to use Prime Lenses in Auto Focus mode.

My advice will be get a D80, or a D200 if u have the $$$.

Stick to Nikon as it is easier to purchase nikon accessories.

If I were u I will buy Fuji as it uses nikon mount and is better than D200 in terms of color.

laoda99 SG

Not really. But I think Nikon is better too. Mebbe becoz I dun have good experience with Canon's QC on the lower prosumer series haha

sillyme SG

I think Unker wants a "low-fuss" system that meets a certain budget right? I don't think he will buy many lenses.

D40x is good enough for its value Smile

laoda99 SG

Yup u are right in some way....but I hope unker chin eng won't be tempted to upgrade later....becoz D40 has its limitations.

If u just want to buy D40 and stick to one or two lenses, the obvious choice would be D40 + 18-200VR

sillyme SG

I agree. Then again, in my opinion, when it comes to digital cameras, their lifespan is relatively short. The general trend now is to use and change.

The only thing that stays is the lens.

Icemoon SG

How have the manufacturers been improving on the lens?

Chin Eng SG

yup, right on.... I am not one of those who'd buy add-ons... the reality of digital camera is that technology changes overnight. One mount today may be obsolete tomorrow.

I am looking for value for money deals... currently the sony package looks dam good. I reckon, body, 2 lenses, 1 flash plus all the freebies is about 2 grand.

.... but we are OOTing.....

laoda99 SG

lenses are getting better but more expensive

like the new canon 16-35 F2.8 version II.........

laoda99 SG

http://www.sony.com.sg/alpha/products_kits01.html

no flash though.....

My recommendation still: if u want to stick with nikon D40s, buy it with a 18-200VR.......couple with a SB800 Flash........

nikon accessories are readily available.....and compare to Sony I think less expensive (like the nikon using SD card which is already cheaper than Sony memory card, and there is wide range of 3rd party factories making accessories for nikon too as nikon has larger market)...

Icemoon SG

in what sense better?

bigger range of aperture? sharper lens?

laoda99 SG

I think less chromatic abbreration and corner-to-corner sharpness

EF 16-35mm f/2.8L II USM Superior image quality

Canons engineers have completely redesigned the optics on the EF 16‑35mm f/2.8L II USM to deliver higher contrast levels and improved resolving power. To ensure corner-to-corner sharpness and contrast throughout the focal range, the lens includes three types of aspherical lens elements (ground, replicated and glass moulded). Two UD lens elements virtually eliminate chromatic aberration, while Super Spectra lens coatings suppress flare and ghosting.

Rapid auto focus is driven by a virtually silent Ring-type Ultrasonic Motor (USM) incorporating Canons latest auto focus algorithms. Full-time mechanical manual focus override is also provided. As with all L-series lenses, the EF 16‑35mm f/2.8L II USM is weather sealed to protect against dust and moisture.

first of all... please don't hijack my thread. this thread is about my dolls.

next: the sony has a built in flash. I tried it at the sony shop. this config comes with a 2 Gb base.

this will be the last I'd comment about cameras in this thread.... and I sincerely hope that anyone wanting to comment about cameras in such details should start a new thread on photographing scale models.
