The Bloomfield Road pitch has been covered all week even though the Fylde coast has not seen the worst of the wintry conditions.

Even so, temperatures are unlikely to rise above freezing over the next three days.

A club spokesman said: "We've not had the snow they've had in other parts of the country. We've just had a ground frost.

"The pitch is covered and we've not got any worries at this moment."

The way United were hammered 4-0 by West Ham in the snow on Tuesday will encourage boss Ollie to do everything possible to get the game on.

Overnight frost and temperatures of below minus eight have left parts of the Blackpool pitch frozen solid and despite groundstaff working around the clock in order to get the game played the decision has been made to call off the match.

Blackpool have the pitch covered, with hot air blowers doing their best to thaw the turf, but continued freezing conditions are expected to make the problem worse.

Manchester United defender Rio Ferdinand confirmed on his Twitter page: "Blackpool game tomorrow called off due to the frozen pitch, so gutted tweeps.

Blackpool's Premier League clash with Manchester United on Saturday has been postponed after the Bloomfield Road pitch fell foul of adverse weather conditions sweeping the UK.

Overnight frost and temperatures of below minus eight have left parts of the Blackpool pitch frozen solid and despite groundstaff working around the clock referee Peter Walton called off the match on Friday after consulting with club officials.

Mr Walton expressed concern that the severely affected areas of the playing surface would not thaw sufficiently for the game to be completed.

Blackpool have the pitch covered, with hot air blowers doing their best to thaw the turf, but continued freezing conditions are expected to make the problem worse.

Manchester United defender Rio Ferdinand said on his Twitter page: "Blackpool game tomorrow called off due to the frozen pitch, so gutted tweeps. "

Good chance for players to rest up for a busy December

It kind of smack you in the face when you think they rested so many players against West Ham in mid week and got trashed so as to be well rested for this match only for it to be call off... I guess Valencia is going to be on the receiving end on Tue... I wonder how the Spanish players take to playing in the cold winter conditions?

good news for united, chelsea drew everton 1-1 at home. united to play chelsea and arsenal in the next 2 games. I hope fergie send out reserves to play valencia at midweek so as to conserve energy for the chelsea match. that match is crucial and more important than the valencia's game.
