As revealed in yesterday’s Sun the ex-Sunderland boss
took over at Championship side Ipswich Town.
And he kicked off his new regime with a withering
assessment on former United players already in management.
Keane, 37, said: “Until an ex-team-mate of mine from
’94 goes on and really achieves something, then I would not agree
about them being a successful manager.
“You need a bit more than some of those managers have
achieved yet.”
Five members of Alex Ferguson’s 1994 Double-winning
United side have managed in the Premier League with varying degrees
of success — Bryan Robson, Steve Bruce, Mark Hughes, Paul Ince and
Keane himself.
But the fiery Irishman, who has signed a two-year deal
with Ipswich and been promised a £20million transfer kitty, insists
none have proved themselves.
He said: “Who are the good managers you are talking
about?
“Sparky and Brucie have not won a trophy have they?
“They have potential and Steve Bruce has had a good
season.
“But Steve Bruce has been manager how many years?
“Sparky has done a brilliant job at Blackburn but is
facing different challenges at Man City.
“We are all facing different challenges."
