Manchester United superstar Cristiano Ronaldo has claimed that
Roma players were begging him to go easy on them during last
seasons Champions League clash.
In what has been billed as the grudge match of the season so far,
Roma travel to Old Trafford for match-day two in the group stages
of the Champions League, looking to avenge a quarter-final
second-leg 7-1 defeat at the Theatre of Dreams last season.
One of the star performers of that fateful evening was Cristiano
Ronaldo, who pressurised the Roma defence with his direct running
and elaborate step-overs.
In comments that will no doubt turn up the heat ahead of this
clash, Ronaldo claimed that members of the Roma side asked to be
sparred further humiliation during the game.
"When we were already winning 6-0 one of their players said 'don't
do any more dribbles, you're already winning by six', almost
begging," Ronaldo revealed, in his book Moments.
"Obviously I won't reveal his name, as these are comments brought
about by occurrences in the game.
"Other players ask me to go to play on the opposite side, and
others don't show any sense of humour when they make threats to my
physical integrity.
"I know that they are merely trying to scare me.
"But these comments are worthless, for I keep playing exactly the
same way."
