Another idea: To keep yourself healthy without spending a whole
truckload of cash on gym memberships or swimming pools, try getting
your own bicycle, and try reaching destinations that are
physically and mentally trying. (For 6 hours we rode from
CCK to West Coast then to
VivoCity)
A good bike can be had for around $300 (with decent gear systems
and brakes).
$300 is just worth 1 year of gym and swimming pool entries
(once per week) whereas if you get a bike, it's worth a lifetime of
freestyle exercising.
Step 1: Plan your route
Be
mighty ambitious. Try aiming for somewhere far. For starters,
a 40KM distance back and forth should suffice.
Step 2: Get some friends
Friends
are important, for you will most likely land yourself in
surprising situations. So their help will always be crucial.
Imagine losing your direction in the remote Lim Chu Kang
farm area!
Step 3: Plan budget
For my case,
we always try to aim for $0 (In the end we still end up
spending on a macdonald's meal everytime)
For those who dont want to spend any cash, bring your own food e.g.
biscuits.
Step 4: Plan starting time and end
time
My advice: Start early, return late. At
around 7am, the cool air gets you motivated and relaxed.
Step 5: Cycle like hell
Don't
stop for anything, the only thing you should think about
is reaching the end point in the least time
possible.
End result: Most often you will realize a
substantial increase in muscle mass in your thighs. For
distances of >60KM, you will shed at least
1.5KG.
Notice: I cannot stress this enough, but ALWAYS
abide by road safety rules. No point in losing your life while in
the process of living cheap.
You must be an avid cyclist. I'm going to try that next time!
Thanks!
