Copa: Heinze sinks Mexico
Reds defender Gabriel Heinze opened the scoring in Argentina's 3-0
victory over Mexico in Wednesday's Copa America semi
final.
Second-half goals from Lionel Messi and Juan Riquelme followed to
secure the win and set up a dream final on Sunday against holders
Brazil (22:05 BST, Sky Sports 1).
Heinze, who's been the subject of so much transfer speculation in
recent weeks, netted only his second goal for his country on the
stroke of half-time when he volleyed home Riquelme's
free-kick.
Barcelona star Messi then lobbed Mexican goalkeeper Oswaldo Sanchez
in the 61st minute before Riquelme scored his fifth of the
tournament from the penalty spot five minutes later.
United transfer target Carlos Tevez played 78 minutes and was
instrumental in the third goal, going down in the area after being
obstructed by Mexican defender Rafael Marquez.
Argentina and Brazil have met nine times in Copa America finals,
with Argentina losing just once, on penalties in 2004. Victory on
Sunday would hand Argentina a record 15th Copa America crown.
