Players we ALMOST lost out on

very so often, posts about the players we MISSED out on (Ronaldinho, Robben, Essien, Batistuta, Salas etc) pop up.

To prove what a pointless exercise that is, here's a list of players we narrowly missed NOT signing:

1. Cristiano Ronaldo (also wanted by Juve, Chelsea, Arsenal among others)

2. Wayne Rooney (wanted by Chelsea and Newcastle)

3. Michael Carrick (wanted by Arsenal, Everton)

4. Ryan Giggs (was on Man City's books as a youth)

5. Paul Scholes (could have ended up at any one of the other area teams' youth academies, including, *shudder*, Oldham!)

6. Nemanja Vidic (almost signed by Fiorentina)

7. Eric Cantona (could have remained at Leeds. Wanted by other teams)

8. Bryan Robson (coveted by top teams, including Liverpool, during his time at West Brom)

9. David Beckham (could have ended up at Tottenham's youth academy)

and the list could go on...

Hope you see the silliness of exercises like "What if [player] had signed for us?".

roy keane was on his wat to blackburn before ferguson hijacked the deal, keane was in a hotel in dublin(the one across from houston station, cant remember name now) when he got a call from United.

And he mentions in his autobiography that he had to break the new to a furious Kenny Dalglish.

We almost lost out on Forlan. Maybe we should have.

Rock^Star SG

We also lost out on Obi Mikel and Robben…...thank God.

manutdsg SG

We missed out on Alan Shearer who snubbed us for Newcastle when he was available at blackburn..I seriously think he regretted his decision but didnt want to admit.

Bontakun SG

Lost out on Ronaldinho.

iceFatboy SG

well, he played for his supported club, newcastle united.

Rock^Star SG

Man U's greatest loss ever.

omgukilledkenny SG

but if we had signed Ronaldinho, we wouldnt have gotten Ronaldo Very Happy

CKeer SG

Shearer snubbed us TWICE. Laughing

When he was with Southampton, United and Blackburn came knocking and he chose Blackburn.

When he was with Blackburn, United again went for him and Newcastle got their man.

Which is why Solskjaer is our legend now. If Shearer was signed, Solskjaer will never be here. He'll never wear the number 20 United jersey and scored that Champions League Equaliser. Mr. Green

And so, this is why this chant is so popular:
You are my Solskjaer, my only Solskjaer.
You make me happy, when skies are grey.
Oh Alan Shearer, was f*cking dearer.
Please don't take my Solskjaer away.

Cheers.

imsorry.

Dead_Man_Inc SG

It was a pity Ronaldino didn't sign with us Crying or Very sad

Rock^Star SG

Ronaldinho is better than Ronaldo leh, he can playmake, Ronaldo not confirmed yet.

And Barca wouldn't have won the European Cup if not for him.

manutdsg SG

but ronaldinho is not proven in english football so that is an unfair comparison with ronaldo who has already done it.

Rock^Star SG

Ronaldinho is just like a Zidane, a special player. He will succeed in any league the world over.

Look at how he tormented England in the 2002 world cup, hey we don;t need to say more right. Laughing

manutdsg SG

no doubts he’s good but like I said he’s not proven in epl..just like shevchenko..he is imo one of the greatest striker in the world but what happen after he came to chelsea in EPL? you know the rest. SO I am saying it’s so unfair to compare ronaldinho with cristiano ronaldo because the latter has prove his worth in EPL while the former is still untested.

Rock^Star SG

Sheva is not in the league of Ronaldinho or Zidane. Laughing

Alright, to each his own opinion.

manutdsg SG

if ronaldinho ever come to any team in EPL..we'll see what happens. Smile
