Smith tipped for England recall

Manchester United striker Alan Smith looks set for a recall to the England squad for their Euro 2008 qualifier in June.The Red Devils forward was watched against Roma and Watford by England boss Steve McClaren, who saw two impressive performances from the former Leeds man.

Smith now looks likely to get a call-up for the clash against Estonia in Tallinn in the absence of the suspended Wayne Rooney.

He could partner Peter Crouch for that game as Michael Owen is unlikely to be fit to play, especially after he was withdrawn from the reserve squad to face Middlesbrough on Monday night.

Andrew Johnson, Darren Bent and David Nugent are also in contention to partner Crouch in Tallinn.

if he really turns out for England it really came a big round for him, i always thought he is gone with that injury but his determination really impressive, wish him luck Wink Wink

As much as I would love and think that Smithie deserve to be on the squad, but to choose him now is very unfair to the other English strikers at other clubs. Kind of biased, just because he is a United player, he gets chosen. Maybe it can be argued that he is a proven striker at top level, but still, it would be unfair.. What you all think?

i think this is all rubbish. there are better strikers in other epl clubs. they should choose the player based on their quality and attitude and not on which club they play for

Selfishly, i hope Smudge wont be recalled. Simply because this is the most crucial part of the season and United's treatment table is almost half-filled.
I dont wish for another injury especially in the striker and defender department.

if its just between the two then i think its fair that the club decide cause they're the one that paid millions for the players, make them the way they are and will have to take them back even if they're injured after representing their country, but if its between, club, country and player then it'll have to be the player cause its a pride to be playing for your own country.
