Racing Santander defender Ruben
Gonzalez has admitted he is flattered by reports linking him with a
move to Manchester United.
The 25-year-old has blossomed this year in Racing colours, having
made a summer move to Santander from Real Madrid, and his efforts
have caught the eye of a number of clubs.
United's chief scout Martin Ferguson is believed to have taken in a
number of Racing games this term and has been impressed with the
efforts of Ruben.
It is believed that Ezequiel Garay was the player United initially
went to watch, but the efforts of Ruben are rumoured to have hogged
the spotlight.
Ruben is contracted to Racing until the summer of 2009 and the club
have insisted there has been no contact from Old Trafford, but
Ruben is aware of the speculation linking him with a move to
England.
"During last season I received contact from clubs in England, but
Real Madrid rejected them as they had injury problems with Woodgate
and Helguera," said Ruben.
"This season I am playing and I am happy, the results are good and
that is good for the players.
"For me the chance to move to Manchester United would be
spectacular, but I don't want to think about theory - only
reality.
"It is logical that this is good for me as it demonstrates that I
am playing well.
"If an offer arrives then I would want a meeting between all
parties to decide my future."
