Michael Carrick says Manchester United are not looking over their shoulders at the title threat posed by Chelsea.

United currently hold a six-point lead over the reigning champions after both clubs picked up away wins at the weekend.

Chelsea briefly reduced the advantage to three points by beating Charlton Athletic 1-0, but the leaders responded by thrashing Tottenham Hotspur 4-0 just 24 hours later.

Carrick is delighted with his side's current form and insists the club's focus is not being distracted by events at Stamford Bridge.

"Chelsea's challenge was always going to be strong and it could be stronger now they have Terry and Cech back in the side," said Carrick.

"But it's not something we focus on.

"We're in a good position. We've earned that and we don't want to let it slip. It's up to us to get a good result every week.

"Chelsea have played well in big games and I think there will still be plenty of twists and turns.

"We didn't feel any pressure after Chelsea had closed the gap on Saturday.

"It's up to us what we do and we know if we win the right amount of games we will win the league.

"We are not looking over our shoulder and worrying about Chelsea. I think we showed that we are good enough to go away from home when the pressure is on and get the result."

Obviously he did not know the pressure of being in the top spot and how a few games can wreck that lead. Muz be cautious and humble leh.

He is talking more about focusing on what MUFC is doing and not worrying about how others are doing cause it is still within MUFC’s control.

Carrick is really a great buy for united... Although he may have cost $14.5 (If they don't win anything) to $18.5 (if they win a few titles in the next few years)... He has added stability to the united midfield... Compare to last year, the midfield was really bad.

And should united do end up winning the title... He would be consider a bargain even at $20m cos he has played in almost every game... Mr. Green

Agreed. I can see that he has worked on passing the ball as fast as he can to Ronaldo, Rooney, Saha and Giggs who can run at defenders.

He's one of the missing puzzles but what United lacked is a more clinical finisher and a defensive midfielder.

Hargreaves coming or not is still in the air... For all we know Fergie may lose interest in him if his return after his broken leg injury is not too impressive...

Even if he does come to OT, it doesn't mean that Carrick won't play at all. If anything, Scholes is fast coming to an age where he could possibly loses his edge in a another yr or 2 at best or maybe even anytime right now. Therefore carrick's coming in to the team early is also a good thing as Owen may take sometime for the integration.

And most of all, its never a bad thing to have another able midfielder to call upon when the need arise... Mr. Green

I think I posted an article from Mirror that was talking about OwenH's impact if he joins MUFC.

Cause the current play of MUFC is based on fluidity, and already it negates a DM role.

MCarrick & PScholes are both AM and DM at the same time. What's crucial is their passes..

Do we still need a makele's type?
