Hargreaves pushes for move

OWEN HARGREAVES is pushing for a January move to Manchester United. The England ace is keen to leave Bayern Munich for a big-money transfer to Old Trafford after recovering from a broken leg.

Hargreaves, 25, was disappointed to see United's £17million bid turned down by the German giants last summer. But the Canadian-born midfielder whose father is from Bolton has not given up hope of joining the Premiership leaders.

He said: "It's about the opportunity to play in another league I haven't played in before, which is also the country I represent and where my family lives. "If people don't understand that, I don't expect them to. It's not their life it's mine. "But I don't think anyone in the football world is in the same situation as me.

"Nobody at any club is going to wait for anyone forever. I don't want to go into too great depth about it because it's not down to me. "I received a lot of criticism for suggesting it would have been a great opportunity, but sometimes you need to say it. I don't feel bad about anything I said or did.

"Anybody who sees United play at the moment knows it's a very special team and they're in a great time. "But it's not like I'm saying I want to go to AC Milan or Inter Milan because they're offering me more money.

"It's because it's England and because Britain is where my family is. "My parents and my brothers are in Canada, but the whole of my dad's side of the family is in Bolton and my mum's side is in Rhyl.

"I think some people don't realise that. They think I'm half-German or something, but I'm not. I was brought up by a British family. It just happened to be in Canada."

BAYERN RULE OUT HARGREAVES SWITCH

Bayern Munich have reiterated that Owen Hargreaves will not be sold to Manchester United in the January transfer window.

The England midfielder has expressed his desire to quit the Allianz Arena and join the Premiership leaders, who attempted to sign him in the summer.

But Bayern are defiant that the Canadian-born ball-winner, who is recovering from a broken leg, will not be going anywhere.

"Our stance is the same - nothing will happen in the winter break," general manager Uli Hoeness confirmed to Kicker magazine.

He's a little costly for the position he plays.
Unless we're Chelsea or paying so much for a player of his calibre is stupid.

Laughing

Cheers.

Giggs wants Hargreaves at Man Utd

Ryan Giggs is hopeful Manchester United can agree a deal with Bayern Munich to sign midfielder Owen Hargreaves. England international Hargreaves has repeatedly expressed his desire for a move to Old Trafford, but Bayern have so far rejected his pleas.

"He is a player who would improve us," Giggs told The Sun.

"You want strength in depth and we would be really strong with him. He is a quality player and showed that in the summer at the World Cup."

United tried to sign Hargreaves in the summer but Bayern refused to budge and eventually threatened to report the English club to Fifa unless they ceased their interest.

Bayern have since claimed that tax issues would prevent them selling Hargreaves in January.

However, that has not stopped Hargreaves stating publicly that he still wants a move back to his home country.

Steve McManaman's dream of making a return to action with Hong Kong Rangers has been scuppered by a knee injury.

McManaman appeared at a press conference in Hong Kong on Tuesday and he said "With the injuries I have got, I don't think I can play. I would have loved to have played in this game.

Unfortunately, it can't happen," he told the South China Morning Post.

Bayern chief warns Hargreaves over move

Bayern Munich chairman Karl-Heinz Rummenigge has warned England midfielder Owen Hargreaves he is making his own life harder by continuing to seek a move to Manchester United.

Hargreaves, 25, first talked about wanting a move to the Premiership leaders in the summer, and this week reiterated his desire to leave Germany as he nears a return from a broken leg.

His position is not earning him any sympathy at the Bavarian club. 'We are sticking with our word and will not sell him,' Rummenigge said.

'He is not making any friends like this.'

Bayern have pledged to rebuff any renewed offer from United this winter, even if they increase their previous bid.

However, Ryan Giggs is hopeful that Manchester United can add England midfielder Owen Hargreaves to their squad in the January transfer window.

Giggs told The Sun: 'He is a player who would improve us. You want strength in depth and we would be really strong with him.

'Hargreaves is a quality player and showed that in the summer (at the World Cup).'
