RYAN GIGGS wants a history-making NINTH title medal to prove
Chelseas billions cannot buy everything. The Manchester United
star admits he is desperate to get one over Jose Mourinhos men
this term by becoming the first player to win nine English
titles.
Welsh ace Giggs, 33, is level with Liverpool legends Phil Neal and
Alan Hansen with eight championship gongs. But he admits making
history and beating Chelsea at the same time would make it his
best-ever title success.
Giggs said: Neal and Hansen were involved with the great Liverpool
sides and it would be nice to have that record to look back on a
record difficult to beat. Its something that would be nice to
look back on when youre finished. But the thing that does
motivate me now is the fact we havent won the Premiership for
three years. That drives me on. And itll be a great achievement
because of what Chelsea have, the ability to buy who they
want.
United have opened up a five-point gap ahead of Chelsea at the top
after losing just once since the start of the season. But Giggs
admits he went into the season with doubts over the clubs ability
to challenge following the shock exit of Ruud van Nistelrooy to
Real Madrid.
He added: A lot of people were worried we wouldnt score goals
when Ruud left. You do worry when you see someone of his quality go
but we have quality.
