BOBBY CHARLTON has hailed Paul Scholes as one of Manchester
Uniteds greatest players.
Scholes, 31, reaches a milestone tomorrow when he makes his 500th
appearance for the club. Only eight other players in Uniteds rich
history have done that, with Charlton top on 759.
Sir Bobby said: Paul Scholes is without any shadow of doubt one of
the finest midfield players Manchester United has ever produced. I
cant believe he is already about to make his 500th appearance. To
me he is still the young lad I saw 12 years ago he is naturally
gifted with great vision.
This is a great milestone for Paul and, fortunately for us, we
have him for a while yet. We were all worried when he had an eye
problem last season but it was wonderful to have him back after a
long lay-off.
His return to the team was like signing a new player.
I cant speak highly enough of Paul Scholes, a sensational player
for United and England, and one of the nicest people you are ever
likely to meet.
Scholes lines up on Sunday with Ryan Giggs and Gary Neville who are
also members of the United 500 Club. It is a situation boss Alex
Ferguson doubts will be repeated.
He said: Were really fortunate we have three great examples at
the club in Gary, Ryan and Paul.
It speaks volumes for the type of people that they are and its a
credit to their endurance to play first-team football for as long
as that at this club, their ability to handle expectation and their
desire.
