Were you surprised by Ferguson's decision to make Rooney captain for the day?

From Newpaper by TOHARI PAIJAN.

It's one of Ferguson's psychological ploys.

He knew that Rooney was low on confidence, so he wanted to try to inject more self-belief into the striker.

It would never have happened if not for a late injury to Ryan Giggs.

Ferguson was hoping to fire Rooney up by giving him more responsibilities.

To a certain extent, he succeeded. Rooney led by example with a good all-round performance this morning.

But this can only happen on a one-off basis. Rooney is too young to become the next Roy Keane. He doesn't have the maturity and temperament for the job.

They say a leopard never changes his spots. I say that is true for Rooney.
He's a time bomb who can explode any time.
But that's him. You take the aggressiveness out of him and he's not Wayne Rooney anymore.

I agree totally.

It is a plot to screw some sense into his young head and make him think.

looking at him play, and just 20, imagine after 5 years, when he truly mature physically and mentally, he would be a fanastic footballer and a great captain for the reds..

Not at all. Look at Torres in Atletico. Good move Laughing

It would be a good move if he perfoms like or better than how he does in the Copenhagen game.

Cheers.

Fergie said:

Rooney was handed the captain's armband 15 minutes before kick-off after late withdrawals by Ryan Giggs and Rio Ferdinand.

Ferguson said: the 20-year-old responded with a tremendous performance, 'He's quite possibly the youngest player to captain United.

'I was looking around the dressing room only 15 minutes from kick-off and Edwin van der Sar was out on the pitch so I overlooked him.

'You look for someone who could respond to it - Paul Scholes for example doesn't want to be captain again - so it was an easy choice giving it to someone that it would give a lift to. He did fantastic and his form is back, as we expected.

I say Paul Scholes is such a nice guy... he doesn't crave to be captain, don't like the limelight, all he wants is only to play good football. A present day model footballer considering all the spotlight todays' footballer gets... a rock star status, getting drunk, super model girlfriends... This guy just play football then go home to his wife and kids. Razz
